Summer

The climate on New York is generally humid continental which subsequently results in two longer summer and winter seasons.

Summer generally develops in New York towards the end of April, where the temperature vastly increases from March with a maximum average temperature of around 13°C.

Usually New York experiences a humid continental climate during summer, with the weather continuing to rise in temperature throughout the season.

From May to September, the average temperature remains in the early to late 20s and whilst precipitation is still common, the summer makes for a great time to sight see in New York and take in some of the amazing views with the sun booming down.

Winter

Winter begins as the temperature plummets in October which sees the average hover at around 10°C before consistently remaining around and under the freezing mark from December to February.

Rainfall can be common, as can snow fall in winter, which can make getting around New York quite tricky at times but also produce some magnificent views.

Central Park covered in snow is beautiful, while New York City is principally less affected than other cities in the state of New York such as Albany and Syracuse.

What to pack for New York?

The humidity of the summer in New York will require light t-shirts, shorts and skirts during the day, with comfort a key necessity when sightseeing.

Air condition is prevalent across shopping malls, restaurants and hotels during the summer, so a jacket may be appropriate depending on where your travels take you.

The winter is much colder in winter and bulky jackets will be necessary, as will solid boots should you end up trudging through streets covered in snow and rainfall.
